Organic Estate Coffee - Direct from our Farms
Cafe ita, coffee with Roots is dedicated to bringing our own, Single Origin, organic coffee directly to the European consumer. A quality coffee produced with great respect for our land and the people that work in our farms and live in our region of Brazil.

Visit the Farm Journal for regular updates and photographs of the harvest back at the farm.
The Winter 2008/9 New View Magazine includes an article about our project and the challenges facing small coffee farmers. The front page of the magazine is the front view out of Luca's farm house. It was rather exciting to see the magazine arrive and open the package and see the photo of the farm.

Naturally Grown
We believe biodynamic practices to be the purest form of organic farming. Our farms have been Demeter certified biodynamic for over 6 years by the Instituto Biodinâmico (IBD) in Brazil and we are dedicated to the propagation of biodynamic farming principles in the area. We are committed to the preservation of the natural environment in our region and we have set aside over 50% of our land as a conservation area.
To complete the process of bringing our coffee to the UK, we have obtained Demeter certification from the UK Biodynamic Agricultural Association for our import and distribution procedures. Furthermore, our roasting partner is the first Demeter certified roaster in the UK. All this ensures that the strict ethical and ecological specifications set out by Demeter are complied through the whole production and distribution chain.
Direct Trade
What can be more ethical than the farmers having a direct ownership of the distribution channels of their own products. This is what we call Direct Trade, the farmers owning their own brand and marketing and delivering directly to the customer. Buying Cafe ita is like buying produce at the weekend farmer's market where farmers sell directly to the consumer. In the coffee business, this process eliminates up to 4 layers of middlemen used in the traditional trading model.

Speciality Roasting
We believe that a quality coffee requires a roasting process with a delicate and expert craftsmanship. We have partnered with a leading micro-roaster in the UK where the coffee is roasted by hand in small batches. There are no mechanical processes or computerised machinery. The master roaster decides on the roasting profile through the use of his experience and his senses like sight, touch, smell and taste to get the best flavour out of our coffee beans.
Quality Coffee
We are committed to the production of quality coffee through the most environmentally friendly methods while maintaining a social devotion to our farming community where most of the people in this project have lived all of their lives. Quality can only be achieved through careful attention to detail at every stage of the farming, harvesting, processing and roasting of the coffee. Furthermore, we believe that an important factor in achieving quality is through the establishment of a direct relationship between the consumer and the producers. This is what Cafe ita is about – a direct channel from the farmers of the Chapada Diamantina in Brazil to the consumers in Europe.
